The ancient walls of the castle of Porto San Giorgio, 63822 Porto San Giorgio, Province of Fermo. The very panoramic and poetic place located just above the coastal town of Porto San Giorgio, where the view is lost towards the sea or the mountain. It is said that here, in medieval times, Venetian or Dalmatian fishermen settled in flight from the barbarians, who were looking for a place overlooking the sea, safe and easy to defend. I start from the historic center of Porto San Giorgio. More precisely, from the characteristic Corso Castel San Giorgio, which can be accessed from the Largo del Teatro Comunale. The climb begins with Via Girolamo Bonaparte, paved and with small steps, and then continues along Via Cerretani up to an arch with which through the walls of Castel San Giorgio. The ro…

The Theater of Porto San Giorgio

Image
Location; Porto S.Giorgio - Teatro, 63822 Porto San Giorgio FM, Italy, 63822 Porto San Giorgio FM, Italy. The Theater of Porto San Giorgio, formerly Teatro Vittorio Emanuele II, was inaugurated in 1817, after five years of work and was designed by the architect Giuseppe Locatelli di Tolentino. The dedication of the theater to Vittorio Emanuele dates back to 1860, in honor of the stage that the King made during his trip to Porto San Giorgio. The event inspired the scenographer Mariano Piervittori of Foligno for the painting of the great Curtain of the Theater which however was stolen in the 60s. In 1910, the San Giorgio painter Sigismondo Nardi masterfully frescoed the vault of the theater, with a great allegory of the arts and human destiny, framed in a web of stars and nets, signifying the fishing vocation of the city and its inhabitants. The vault of Nardi gives the Theater an original and very precious historical-artistic profile. The hall, in the classical horseshoe shape, is deli…

Castel San Giorgio, Corso Castel S. Giorgio, 63822, Porto San Giorgio, Province of Fermo, Fermano, FM, Marches, Italy. The origins of the current inhabited center seem to date back to the 11th century, when Venetian or Dalmatian fishermen settled on the hill, a natural defense. Castel San Giorgio, from the name of the fortress that dominated it, in the mid-13th century an alliance was established between Venice and Fermo, which favored the development of commercial traffic headed by Castel San Giorgio. In 1267 the mayor of Fermo and the future Doge of Venice Lorenzo Tiepolo transformed the port into an equipped and military port of call; he also built a fortress, which he would take the name, to watch over the Saracen incu…

Amazing, however, in our region, is the considerable number of theaters that place it in first place in Italy for their density compared to the number of inhabitants. The more than one hundred theaters, scattered in a rather uniform way in the various provinces, testify not only to the high cultural ferment that animates our land, but they represent historical-architectural monuments of inestimable artistic value.

The stone pine memories of Porto San GiorgioVia Girolamo Bonaparte, 63822 Porto San Giorgio FM, Italy. Armed with a rudimentary sling, we left as a group of 4 or 5 kids, they started hunting for the largest pine cones set in these gigantic pines. Most of the time the pinecone fell on our heads, but it was worth it because we enjoyed the pine nuts there. From the hills between Fermo and Porto San Giorgio that slope down to the sea, it stands in the landscape The stone pine. The stone pine, botanical name Pinus pinea, also known as the Italian stone pine, umbrella pine, and parasol pine, is a tree from the pine family. The tree is native to the Mediterranean region.

Via Girolamo Bonaparte, 63822, Porto San Giorgio, FM, Fermano, Marches, Italy.
Why is it called Villa Bonaparte? The original name was Villa Caterina, from Caterina di Wurtemberg, consort of Girolamo Buonaparte who had it built. Jerome, "former king of Westphalia, who, after the battle of Waterloo, took the supreme command of the French army, with whom he gloriously fought in that memorable and unfortunate battle, which finally ended the wonderful fortune of the great emperor", chose Porto San Giorgio, then Porto di Fermo, to let you build a sumptuous villa. The motive that drives Girolamo to have a dwelling in the Fermo area is essentially dictated by the heart; in fact, he fell in love with the marquise Anna Azzolino, "who …

Villa Bonaparte, Via Girolamo Bonaparte, 63822 Porto San Giorgio FM, Italy. The Villa, in neoclassical style, has a facade adorned with bas-reliefs, stairs and balconies in travertine from Ascoli, and is surrounded by a large park, which in front forms a sort of terrace, while at the back it opens into a beautiful garden. Even the frescoes, which decorate walls and ceilings, are of neoclassical taste and create an atmosphere of other times, graceful and refined, in which it is very pleasant to dive. The villa became both a worldly place where the Fermo aristocracy participated in parties and banquets, both a notable cultural landmark and a center of political activity. It was precisely because of the latter, in fact, that the permanence of the Bonaparte family in Porto San Giorgio was short-lived, thus breaking the dream of all the local nobles…
