Montefano and Montefiore near Recanati

Image
62019 Montefiore, Province of Macerata, Marche, Italy.  Montefano and Montefiore near Recanati, are two castles that around the tenth century were built in the border area between the Lombards of the Duchy of Spoleto and the Byzantines of Pentapoli and as such, they underwent the ups and downs of the confrontation between the two domains. The area was identified by the previous toponym fundus Florie, from which the castle built by the Recanatesi at the end of the thirteenth century to stem the arch-enemy, Osimo who faced the other castle, will take its name. The construction of the castle on the pre-existing inhabited site seems to have occurred in the late 13th century. Montefiore acquired the municipal statutes in 1405 and numerous fortification works were carried out throughout the fifteenth century. The raising of the large central tower, documented by the annals of 1429, pushes forward the hypothesis that in those years the sighting function was privileged rather than defense. Du…

Our Lady of Loreto is the patron saint of aviators.

Image
Saint of aviators, Via Papa Sisto V, Near the Torrione Rotondo, 60025, Loreto, Province of Ancona, Marche, Italy. The Lauretan tradition, relating to the transport of the house of Mary, by angels from Nazareth to the ancient Illyria (1291) then from there to the ancient territory of Recanati (1294), appeared very suggestive for the choice of the Madonna of Loreto as Patron who moves through the air. Poets and painters had already recalled this transport in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, imagining the flight of the Nazarene house almost like a modern flight: among the first examples, we can mention the painting Transport of the Holy House of Loreto by Giovan Battista Rositi from Forlì of 1501 and preserved today in the Diocesan Museum of Velletri. The most famous is the fresco, and its sketch, which Giambattista Tiepolo made in 1743 for the vault of the Scalzi Church in Venice and today preserved in the Gallerie dell'Accademia. Thus, since 1912 the Aviators and Aeronau…

Patrol walkways in Loreto

Image
Camminamenti di ronda a Loreto,  60025, Loreto, AN, Province of Ancona, Italy. . The basilica of Loreto is fortified in the upper part with a walkway and stone corbels, which support them also with a decorative function; on behalf of Cardinal Girolamo Basso della Rovere the construction was started by Giuliano da Maiano and subsequently modified and completed by Baccio Pontelli in a typically Renaissance style. The walkways are covered and protruding corridors with a continuous series of vaulted windows around the upper part of the basilica, to allow easy defense in case of attacks - as had already happened by the Turks in a bloody way in Otranto in 1480; the year before in nearby Grottammare and in 1518 in Porto Recanati; the latter attack which caused an order by Pope Leo X for a further fortification of Loreto, which fortunately was never attacked. In the upper internal part of the building and behind the walkways, there are the rooms that were once used as accommodation for the g…

I want a house facing the sea

Image
I only have to get there on foot, like this, just walk the sand and the sea. Small and narrow houses that go by height, and I want to see the sunrise, sunset, the stormy sea, calm, and the summer the heat burn the walls, sweat, sweat, feel the heat of the sand burn your feet, and throw me in the water, swim and swim, look at my house from the sea, with all the tranquility and life of the sea. See the fish jump, the currents change, the waves break on the shore.
