The clock face is in gold and blue enamel; marks time, day, moon phases and zodiac. The clock is also equipped with a carillon mechanism, traditionally activated only in the days of Epiphany and Ascension. At each stroke of the hours, the side panel of the hours opens to let pass a carousel of wooden statues representing the characters of the Nativity and the Magi. The statues, dragged by a tracking mechanism along with the semi-circular platform above the dial, then re-enter the Tower through the side panel of the minutes located on the opposite side of the clock.
