Tuscany is a region of central Italy. Its capital, Florence, is home to some of the most famous Renaissance works of art and architecture in the world, such as Michelangelo's David, Botticelli's works at the Uffizi Gallery and the Duomo. The territory of the region is varied, and includes the rugged Apennines, the beaches of the island of Elba in the Tyrrhenian Sea, the olive groves and vineyards of Chianti. Tuscany is known for its landscapes, history, artistic legacy, and its influence on high culture. It is regarded as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and has been home to many figures influential in the history of art and science, and contains well-known museums such as the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace. Tuscany produces wines, including Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino.
