The Romans used raw brick

History tourism > Cultural tourism > Wine tourism > Ecotourism > Rural tourism > Food tourism > Fashion tourism > Art tourism > Romance tours > Walking tour > Photo from Italy by @giuseppebaldassarri As far as housing is concerned, throughout the republican historical phase (3rd-1st century BC), the Romans used raw brick in the form of large bricks (the famous lidium bricks, cited and described accurately  from Vitruvius and Pliny in their literary works: clay often mixed with straw, manipulated and transformed into regular artifacts similar to oriental bricks simply dried in the sun) while they use stone materials in isodome masonry and the various opus murari (based on cement conglomerate and  more or less regularized stone facings) in public architecture. History tourism > Cultural tourism > Wine tourism > Ecotourism > Rural tourism > Food tourism > Fashion tourism > Art tourism > Romance tours > Walking tour > Photo from Italy by @giuseppebaldassarri Marano is a fortified village in the Marche region, the medieval core of Cupra Marittima. It gave itself municipal statutes since 1076 and, in the late Middle Ages, it was involved in the struggles between Ascoli and Fermani for the control of the territory. In the 16th century it was sacked by the Turks and in 1861 it was annexed to the nascent Kingdom of Italy. Currently it forms part of the capital and is also known as Cupra Alta (or generically the upper town of Cupra); however, that of Marano was the official name of the municipality until 1863. From the domus ecclesiae

Image
Photo from Borgo Marano by @giuseppebaldassarri From the domus ecclesiae to the Christian basilica (up to the Baroque style) There is little information on the buildings where the first Christians gathered to remember and celebrate the Eucharist, it seems likely that initially the sacred rites were held in the environments in which they lived.  These private houses, called ecclesiae domesticae, were the first places of Christian worship. As early as the third century, the ecclesia domestica was transformed into a domus ecclesiae: an environment intended for liturgical use with various functions.  The best known and best preserved of the earliest religious buildings is that of Dura Europos, a small city in Syria, near the Euphrates.  The building, built in 232, as evidenced by a graffiti, has the shape of a Roman house with a central courtyard;  it has two floors, with the upper floor intended for housing and the lower one for Christian worship, with a worship hall and a baptis

I T R A V E L in I T A L Y .COM The Goddess and her jewels Cupra, like any self-respecting Goddess, has its jewels: the sea for relaxation and sport, the Marano hill with its breathtaking views and stately villas, its millenary history that starts from the Paleolithic, passes through Piceni,  Greeks, Romans, Moors, the Middle Ages to become today's jewel. The walls of the castle

Image
Once you arrive in Borgo Marano, you will find yourself in front of Porta Maggiore;  from there you will have to face a long climb and, following it, you will have two possibilities: to turn your gaze along the walls of the castle, or to lose yourself in the landscape of the coast of Cupra.  The panorama, which is the master, is fairytale. Northern Italy. The northern regions of Italy are full of spectacular mountain landscapes, while other areas, especially on the east coast, are flat at the entrance to the Adriatic Sea.

Southern Italy it is the heat of the sun and the color of the landscapes, Italy in its most ancient form, full of feeling and sensual. Down here, the ruins are older, the longest lunches and the wildest and most intense landscapes.
