63828 Campofilone, Province of Fermo, Italy. n the historic center, enclosed by walls, you can reach it by walking along a short avenue lined with majestic secular pines. The village, tapering in shape, rises along a main street that is overlooked by the main buildings behind which a labyrinth of alleys opens up, sometimes covered by barrel vaults and cross vaults, which allow a glimpse of the beauty of the landscape that surrounds it: the calm Adriatic Sea, the rolling hills until you reach the white-washed peaks of the Sibillini mountains.

Genius Loci

Image
The sense of beauty and the spirit that enlivens every place inhabited by man as guides for a fuller and more meaningful existence. Places have a soul. Our job is to find out. Exactly as it happens for the human person. " (James Hillman - The Soul of Places).
"What does it mean that places have a soul?" Have you ever had that feeling, upon entering a place (a city, a museum, a landscape), of being able to feel vividly as a sort of distinctive mark of that place, specific psychic energy characterizing that particular place? The ancient Romans, this energy, called it Genius Loci (the genius of the place). Last shots and stories for The Soul of Places in Italy, continue here.

Those blue mountains

Image
Those blue mountains. Of that distant sea, those blue mountains, which I discover from here, and which to cross one day. I thought, arcane worlds, arcana. Happiness pretending to my life! Ipse Dixit Giacomo Leopardi.
Recanati Town in Italy. Recanati is a town and comune in the Province of Macerata, in the Marche region of Italy. Recanati is an immense natural balcony, located on a typically Marche hill.

A balcony from which you can look out for kilometers, admiring on one side the distant shape of Monte Conero that dominates the Adriatic coast, or, turning your head, get lost in the splendid and characteristic Marche countryside, with sweet and harmoniously colored shapes from light-dark brown mixed with the green of trees and crops along the fields. A harmony that spreads deep and that really gives the sense of infinity to the look. And stopping on some of the railings placed on this walk around the walls gives the sensation of getting lost in this immensity and, as Leopardi wrote, d…

Petrtoli and the Three Arches

Image
Largo Giacomo Leopardi, 5, 63848 Petritoli FM, Italy. Ancient Petrania gate built in the first half of the fifteenth century with the aim of reinforcing the slightly more backward fourteenth-century gate. The new door, part of a quadrilateral, was equipped with a drawbridge, had only one entrance and the wall was set between two cylindrical towers All four sides were equipped with battlements both inside and outside. The Three Arches were built in 1872 to "give light and air" to the internal square by breaking down the original wall. Made in neo-Gothic style, the Three Arches have a purely decorative function and the number three is not accidental. From the outside of the Three Arches, you can see all three "Petrania" doors that have followed one another over the centuries. The first, at the top right, above the Mannocchi palace, was built around the mid-twelfth century, the second, to the left of the same palace, in the fourteenth century and the third ... the Thr…

Vitali Palace in Petritoli

Image
63848 Petritoli, Province of Fermo, FM, The Marches, Italy.Vitali Palace in Petritoli at the end of the main street of Petritoli is the nineteenth-century palazzo in the flowery Gothic-Venetian style. The style follows the decorative of the mullioned windows and summit pinnacles, typical of the lagoon city. Inside there are fine neo-classical frescoed ceilings, while outside there is a fine example of a 14th-century Gothic brick arch. Petritoli is a hilly municipality in the province of Fermo that dominates the green and fertile Aso valley, of which it represents an important economic center for the rich land of olive trees, mulberry trees and hills. It offers a vast and splendid view that sweeps from the Sibillini Mountains to the Adriatic coast. Originally named, dating back to the year 1000, Rodolfo Castle was born from the merger of three castles: Petrosa, Petrania, and Petrollavia.

Battle of the Oranges 2020: Carnevale di Ivrea, the Ultimate Food Fight

Image
10015 Ivrea, Metropolitan City of Ivrea, Piemonte, Italy. Battle of the Oranges, Ivrea, February Ivrea is the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. This famous ‘battle’ reenacts the 12th-century skirmish with citrus fruit in what is one of Europe’s biggest food fights. Participants either run through the streets or hurl oranges from one of the ‘battle buses’ which patrol Ivrea. Each year in the days leading up to Fat Tuesday, the townspeople of Ivrea divide into nine squads and spend the next three days having Italy’s biggest food fight. Great for anyone low on vitamin C!

Tour Packages Italy Destination

Image
Tour Packages Italy Destination From the canals of Venice to the hills of Tuscany, we explore the pockets of Italy that make this country a classic. Though they may have been etched into travel brochures many times, you will peel back the layers and find there's so much more to love than pizza, pasta, and picturesque sites. On a slow and simple day in Italy, you'll relax by the ocean flopped under an umbrella on the glamorous Isle of Capri. On an extravagant day, you could be shopping at Prada and dining on breaded veal cutlet in the fashion mecca of Milan. In the capital, alfresco lunch is in order after many hours strolling the Vatican City, Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum in Rome. With so many opportunities available here, there really is no quintessential Italian holiday.

Ipse dixit: In Italy the Renaissance.

Image
In Italy, for three hundred years under the Borgias, there has been war, terror, crime, bloodshed. But they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo, the Renaissance "il Rinascimento". In Switzerland they lived in brotherly love, they had 500 years of peace and democracy. And what did they produce? The cuckoo clock. Orson Welles

The Renaissance in Venice - Il Rinascimento a Venezia.
At the end of the fifteenth-century canons of Renaissance architecture also began to appear, for example in Ca 'Dario and Palazzo Corner Spinelli, the latter of Mauro Codussi, a pioneer of this style in Venice. Ca 'Vendramin Calergi, which is one of his masterpieces and now houses the Venice Casino, reveals a transition now complete: the large and numerous openwork windows are round and flanked by columns of the three classic orders. The references to classical architecture are more evident in the work of Jacopo Sansovino, who arrived from Rome in 1527: on the Grand Canal, in addition to the Fabbr…

Ipse dixit; And how could Italy not be loved?

And how could Italy not be loved? I believe that every man has two homelands; one is his personal, closer, and the other: Italy.
